55%

Of hydrogen produced by electrolysis.

Electrolysis is expected to account for 55% of the hydrogen production mix, with substantial regional discrepancies.

While the historical mix has relied almost exclusively on fossil fuel-based generation, the growing hydrogen demand will increasingly be met through electrolysis. In our EnerBlue scenario, in line with NDCs and country pledges, more than half of global production will be based on electricity by 2050, driven primarly by fossi fuel consumers (Europe, Asia-Pacific), while the H2 mix of producers (North America, Middle-East) will remain carbon intensive.
